PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has started a comprehensive audit and verification of all government vehicles, aiming to eliminate unauthorized use and improve administrative efficiency.

Following the decision, made during the cabinet meeting on January 5, the process has been initiated emphasizing proper registration procedures for new vehicles and the retrieval of vehicles currently in the possession of retired employees or unauthorized personnel.

According to the cabinet's directives, the Chief Secretary has been assigned the responsibility to maintain a detailed record of all government-owned vehicles. This includes vehicles purchased from the regular budget as well as those acquired under various development projects. The Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has been instructed to provide computerized, department-wise data of all registered government vehicles. Meanwhile, the Planning and Development Department will submit a complete inventory of vehicles obtained through development schemes, covering both ongoing and completed projects.

Following this, each administrative department is required to verify the custody, current user, and operational status of vehicles under their control. The measure is designed to clearly identify vehicles held by unauthorized individuals, including officials who have retired, been transferred, or otherwise are not entitled to government vehicles. Simultaneously, the Finance Department will assess the annual maintenance and operational costs of the current fleet and evaluate the financial implications of continuing their use versus replacement.

The Cabinet also ordered the Administration Department to take immediate action against retired employees or officials transferred out of the province who continue to possess government vehicles.
