Three-year-old kidnapped from park in Karachi rescued

A three-year-old boy who was abducted from Al-Fatah Family Park in Karachi's North Nazimabad on January 11 was safely recovered late Thursday night, bringing relief and joy to his family.
According to officials, DSP Kamal Naseem, who had been appointed by DIG West to lead the police team tasked with recovering the child, stepped down from his position after the successful operation. Naseem was among five DSPs previously removed from their posts by Sindh IG.
The boy, identified as Anas, was abducted on Sunday and a case was registered at the Hyderabad Police Station. The Hyderi SHO of the station said that after the family received a call regarding the child’s whereabouts, they immediately contacted the police, who acted swiftly to recover the boy safely from Liaquatabad in Karachi.
The police handed over the child to his family following legal formalities, and the family expressed their gratitude and happiness over his safe return.
Earlier, the CCTV footage, surfaced after the child went missing, showed a woman and a man carrying the child, prompting senior police officials to take notice of the incident. According to the police, Anas was with the family and other children from MPR Colony, Orangi Town, during a visit to the park on Sunday.
The child reportedly went missing while playing in the park, triggering an immediate search by the family members, which proved unsuccessful. The complainant told the police that the family put up an extensive search in the evening but they did not find Anas anywhere in and around the park.
Hyderi police registered an FIR against the unidentified woman and man, based on a complaint filed by a relative of the child. Hyderi SHO Sub-Inspector Arif said, “Police reviewed the footage of CCTV installed inside the park which shows a woman leaving the park while holding the child in her arms. The suspected woman was accompanied by a man wearing a jacket.” He added that footage from outside the park is also being obtained to help identify and trace the suspects.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Anas’s father Naseem said the family resides in MPR Colony, Orangi Town, and that his younger brother had taken the children to the park for recreation when the incident occurred. “After the CCTV footage surfaced, it became clear that a woman had taken my son away,” he said.
