Prime Video has released the first look at its upcoming live-action series Tomb Raider starring Sophie Turner as the legendary video game heroine Lara Croft. Currently in production, the series adapts the long-running video game franchise and was originally greenlit in May 2024, with Turner’s casting revealed later that November.
Turner joins a cast that includes Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein. Phoebe Waller-Bridge serves as creator, writer, and executive producer, while Chad Hodge co-showruns alongside her. Jonathan van Tulleken is set to direct and also serves as an executive producer.
The Tomb Raider franchise has long celebrated Lara Croft as a female action icon, first appearing in the 1996 video game. The latest game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was released in 2018, with two more titles, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, scheduled for 2026 and 2027. The series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics, Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins via Wells Street Productions, Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel, Hodge, van Tulleken, and Legendary Television. Production is handled by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.
This reboot continues the franchise’s tradition of high-profile actresses portraying Croft, following Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Waller-Bridge’s involvement comes under her overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, and the series was developed as part of a collaboration between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM via Story Kitchen’s first-look deal to create additional Tomb Raider stories for screen adaptations.
