A judge has dismissed most of Rebel Wilson’s lawsuit against ‘The Deb’ producers in a major setback for the actress

Rebel Wilson has suffered a significant legal setback after a Los Angeles judge dismissed the majority of her lawsuit against the producers of The Deb, the film she directed and helped bring to market. The ruling sharply narrows Wilson’s case and shifts the focus of the ongoing dispute toward questions surrounding her own conduct rather than the allegations she raised.

In a decision issued this week, the court threw out most of Wilson’s claims, describing many of her allegations as conclusory, abusive and lacking specific factual detail. The judge declined to give Wilson another opportunity to amend her complaint, a move that effectively shut the door on large portions of her case and marked a major loss in a legal battle that has been unfolding for months.

Wilson had accused producers Gregor Cameron, Vince Holden and Amanda Ghost of misconduct connected to the film’s production and release, including claims of fraud, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty. Central to her complaint were allegations that Ghost made promises to secure Wilson’s involvement in the project, including shared writing credit, music industry opportunities and ownership over soundtrack rights. The court found Wilson failed to clearly explain how, when or where those alleged promises were made, concluding that the claims did not meet the legal standard required to proceed.

The ruling leaves only a narrow path forward for Wilson, with one remaining claim against Ghost for intentional infliction of emotional distress still alive. Much of the judge’s reasoning focused on the lack of concrete detail in Wilson’s filings, noting that her legal team relied on broad assertions rather than specific facts tied to identifiable events or meetings.

The dismissal also strengthens the position of the producers, who have accused Wilson of engaging in a smear campaign against Ghost. Attention is now turning to discovery related to a series of anonymous websites that allegedly targeted Ghost with false and abusive claims. The producers have argued these sites were created at Wilson’s direction, an allegation Wilson has denied, but one that is now set to be explored further as the case continues.

Online reaction has been divided. Some observers framed the ruling as a serious blow to Wilson’s credibility in the dispute, while others argued it highlights how difficult it can be to litigate complex creative partnerships once relationships sour. The case has also drawn attention because of the high profile figures and financial interests involved, including powerful players in the film and music industries.

With most of her claims dismissed, Wilson now faces an uphill battle as the lawsuit moves into its next phase.
