Deadpool has been confirmed as a playable character in Marvel Rivals season 6, with developers NetEase revealing that the character will be available across all three in-game roles: Duelist, Strategist and Vanguard. The announcement was made alongside a new gameplay trailer released on January 13.
According to the trailer, players will be able to select Deadpool’s role before matches, with his appearance remaining the same while his health pool and abilities adjust to fit the chosen class.
As a Duelist, Deadpool can throw his sword, which spins like a rotating blade. In the Vanguard role, he gains access to a deployable spherical shield. When played as a Strategist, Deadpool can heal allies by shooting or slashing them with his katanas.
The character also introduces mechanics that differ from other heroes in the game. During matches, Deadpool can level up his skills, opening a book-style menu that allows players to choose which abilities to unlock.
The trailer also shows abilities that deal damage when opponents miss their shots, as well as a feature that allows Deadpool to take photos with defeated enemies. One scene depicts Deadpool using a photo mode to become temporarily invincible while absorbing Magneto’s Ultimate Ability.
Hero proficiency systems are also being revised, with more tiers added and new hero-specific rewards, including in-game currency and animated character avatars.
Several team-up abilities are being adjusted, with some removed and others added. Deadpool will receive a team-up with Jeff, creating a spinning toy that heals allies and obscures enemy screens with animated Deadpools.
Season 6 will also introduce additional updates to Marvel Rivals. A new map, Museum of Contemplation, is scheduled to launch on January 29.
Times Square, the game’s non-combat lobby area, will add a photo mode and a new feature called The Clobberin’ Club, which allows players to duel and broadcast matches on large in-game screens.
Marvel Rivals season 6 launches later this month.
