Ethan Browne, the son of singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, died from the combined toxic effects of fentanyl, methamphetamine and lidocaine, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

The medical examiner ruled Ethan’s death accidental, concluding that the mixture of substances caused fatal toxicity. He was 52.

Jackson Browne announced his son’s death in November, saying Ethan was found unresponsive at his home on the morning of Nov. 25, 2025. At the time, the family requested privacy and did not release additional details.

Ethan Browne was an actor, model and musician. He appeared in the 2004 film Raising Helen alongside Kate Hudson and worked as a fashion model with designer Isaac Mizrahi. As an infant, he was featured on a 1974 Rolling Stone cover with his father.

Ethan’s mother, Phyllis Major, died by suicide in 1976, when he was still a toddler.

In a 2022 interview, Jackson Browne spoke proudly about his son, describing him as a devoted father and expressing admiration for his work and family life.
