HYDERABAD:

The Sindh police have sought a judicial inquiry in the allegedly fake encounter of a landlord of Dadu district, Nadir Khan Jamali, whose family and community has been demanding FIR against the cops for killing their men.

The office of Inspector General of Sindh police on Tuesday submitted a request to the Sindh Home Department to approach the Sindh High Court to initiate a judicial probe.

In the letter, the Additional IG Operations suggested that the inquiry should be conducted by a district and session judge over the encounter which occurred between January 6 and 7 in the limits of A section and B section police stations in Dadu.

Jamali's family has blamed female SHO Benazir Jamali and SHO Qurban Qambrani besides the district's SSP Amir Saud Magsi and other cops for the alleged extra judicial killing. They claim that Jamali was surrendering to the police to face charges of his clash with the cops.

Jamali's family members, relatives and community organized a protest rally against the accused cops on Monday which marched from Allama I I Qazi Library to Dadu press club. The protesters warned the police of blocking the Indus Highway by staging a sit-in if the SSP, the two SHOs and other implicated policemen are not arrested and booked in an FIR by January 18.

Jamali tribe's chief Sardar Daathal Khan Jamali said they are unsatisfied with the preliminary investigation of the district police. "Nadir Khan was a big landlord and he is being framed in petty crimes." According to him, Jamalis are organizing protests across Sindh over the issue.

The Pakistan Peoples Party's Dadu based MNA Rafiq Ahmed Jamali has also condemned what he called an extra judicial killing. The MNA had last week approached the Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and demanded an honest inquiry.

The killings of Jamali in Dadu and Kailash Kolhi, a peasant allegedly gunned down by a landlord in Badin district, also drew condemnation from the political and nationalist parties.
