Amanda Seyfried’s reaction following her losses at the 83rd Golden Globes has become a subject of online discussion after clips from the ceremony circulated on social media.

The actor was nominated in two categories at the January 11, 2026 event, for The Testament of Ann Lee and Long Bright River, but did not secure a win in either.

Footage from the broadcast shows Seyfried briefly grimacing before smiling and applauding as the winners were announced.

The moment was highlighted by a split-screen shot, which appeared to capture her shifting expression. The clip spread widely online, prompting speculation about whether her reaction was one of disappointment, humour, or surprise.

According to a Daily Mail report dated January 12, cameras first focused on Seyfried during the announcement of the motion picture comedy or musical lead actress category, which was won by Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

A later split-screen moment attracted further attention when Michelle Williams was announced as the winner for Dying for Sex. Williams was not present at the ceremony, with reports stating she was performing in Anna Christie in Brooklyn at the time. In that moment, Seyfried appeared to clap early and was seen mouthing, “She’s not even here,” according to the same report.

Body language expert Judi James offered an interpretation of Seyfried’s reaction, suggesting the split-screen presentation may have amplified the moment. “She looks down before the winner is called suggesting she had no plans to opt for the fake bravado route,” James said.

She added that the “exaggerated grimace does look like an attempt to be funny and perhaps more honest than losers who whoop and scream as though they’ve won.”
