Apple has announced a multi-year partnership with Google to power a major AI upgrade for Siri, leveraging Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology.
The collaboration marks a significant step for Apple, which has largely remained on the sidelines of the AI boom that accelerated after the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
According to a joint statement, Apple evaluated multiple options before selecting Google’s technology as the foundation for its next-generation Siri and future Apple Foundation Models. The AI features will continue to run on Apple devices and the company’s private cloud infrastructure. Apple declined to disclose financial terms, but reports earlier suggested the tech giant could pay around $1 billion annually for access to Google’s AI.

The partnership builds on the longstanding business relationship between Apple and Google, which already sees the search engine serve as the default option on iPhones. The deal comes amid renewed trust in Google’s AI capabilities, following its record-breaking 2025 performance and surpassing Apple in market capitalization for the first time since 2019.
Apple had previously delayed its AI-powered Siri launch until 2026, citing development challenges. The company also partners with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri for complex queries, but it remains unclear how the Google collaboration will affect this integration.
Google recently introduced its Gemini 3 model, further cementing its position in the AI space. With Apple now relying on Google’s AI for Siri, the tech world anticipates a more capable and responsive voice assistant. Analysts expect this move to intensify competition among tech giants, including Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta, all of which have invested heavily in AI products and infrastructure.
