Tim Burton’s take on the classic sci-fi tale ‘Attack of the 50 Foot Woman’ is officially moving forward, with Margot Robbie attached to star and produce. Warner Bros. is revamping the project, enlisting ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ writers Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan to rewrite the original script by ‘Gone Girl’ scribe Gillian Flynn. While Flynn laid the foundation, she will not return due to other commitments.

Robbie is set to play the titular character, a wealthy heiress who, after enduring abuse and a strange encounter with an alien spacecraft, grows to an enormous size and becomes a force of nature. The story promises a modernised, female-centric take on the 1958 original. Jimenez and McMechan explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re obsessed with the idea of a fifty-foot woman wreaking havoc because a man did her dirty. We have a feeling a lot of people will relate.”

The young writing duo, both 24, have already made a mark in Hollywood, with credits including the original series ‘A Really Bad Person’ and projects with Legendary, DreamWorks Animation, and Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures. Their involvement signals a fresh and contemporary approach to Burton’s vision, likely blending dark humour with his signature gothic style.

For Burton, the project marks a tonal shift from his recent adaptations such as ‘Dumbo’ and Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ and reunites him with Robbie following the global success of ‘Barbie’. If the script clicks, the film could become one of Burton’s most distinctive studio projects in years, combining his fantastical direction with a new, socially resonant story.
