Netflix shuts down Stranger Things secret episode theory after series finale—but fans still unsure
Netflix confirms Stranger Things season 5 ends with episode 8, but fans stay cautious after Netflix2 teaser

Netflix has officially addressed and debunked a viral fan theory claiming a secret ninth episode of Stranger Things season five existed. The rumor, known online as “Conformity Gate,” suggested a hidden episode would drop on January 7, 2026.
The theory gained traction after fans argued that the emotional ending of season five felt incomplete, citing unusual costume choices, subtle set changes, and hidden Morse code messages in Episode 8. A TikTok clip of Hawkins teacher Mr. Clarke pointing to a clock set at 1:07 fueled speculation that the final episode would release at 8 p.m. ET on January 7.
Adding to the intrigue, Netflix previously shared a story featuring an open door tagging Netflix2, a fan-linked account claiming to be managed by a Netflix admin. The door was initially “closed,” leaving fans uncertain. Now, Netflix2 is public again with a post styled in the Stranger Things font reading: “Maybe I am the problem” and captioned: “That’d be strange if true.”
QUICKLY! Why would Netflix post this? The door is now closed #conformitygate pic.twitter.com/c2h4y2oynw

What the hell is this? Netflix first showed the door open and teased a mysterious Stranger Things post on the Netflix 2 profile. Now the door is closed—and the Netflix 2 account is private. What’s going on?

Meanwhile, the official Stranger Things account bio reads: “ALL EPISODES OF STRANGER THINGS ARE NOW PLAYING.” Fans have joked that the all-caps bio is like someone yelling at viewers to believe the finale is truly over, adding to the playful conspiracy theories.
Comformity Gate has been found dead in a ditch after social channels for 'STRANGER THINGS' had their bios changed to read the following:

Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed no cut scenes or extra episodes exist.
While the main storyline is finished, the Stranger Things universe continues. Netflix will release a behind-the-scenes documentary, One Last Adventure, on January 12, and an animated spinoff, Stranger Things: Tales of ’85, will explore events between seasons two and three later this year. An untitled live-action spinoff is also in development, introducing new characters and mythology—but without the original cast.
Even with official confirmation, the reopened Netflix2 account, Stranger Things–font post, and all-caps bio have kept fans cautiously watching for more surprises
