Sydney Sweeney is officially set to return for The Housemaid’s Secret, the sequel to the hit psychological thriller The Housemaid. Following the strong commercial success of the first film, the new installment is moving forward with plans to expand the story and bring Sweeney back as Millie Calloway, the complex character at the center of the franchise.

The sequel is based on The Housemaid’s Secret, the second novel in Freida McFadden’s bestselling Housemaid book series. The story follows Millie as she takes on a new job in another wealthy household, only to become entangled in a fresh web of lies, manipulation and dangerous secrets. Like its predecessor, the sequel is expected to lean heavily into psychological tension and sharp twists.

Sweeney’s return was widely anticipated after the first film’s success, which helped cement the project as a viable franchise. In addition to starring, she is also attached as an executive producer, signaling her continued creative involvement in shaping the series. Michele Morrone is also expected to reprise his role as Enzo, maintaining continuity with the original story.

The creative team behind The Housemaid is largely staying intact for the sequel, with director Paul Feig returning and the screenplay again adapted from McFadden’s novel. Production is expected to begin later in 2026, with a theatrical release planned after filming wraps.

With The Housemaid’s Secret, the franchise aims to build on what made the first film a success while raising the stakes for its central character. As anticipation grows, Sweeney’s return ensures the sequel will remain closely tied to the performance that helped make The Housemaid one of the most talked-about thrillers of the year.
