Deportation of Indian woman married to Pakistani man halted
Nasir Hussain and Sarbjit Kaur
The deportation of a newly converted Indian woman, Noor Hussain, could not be carried out for the time being, despite earlier plans to send her back to India via the Wagah border on Monday.
Authorities halted the deportation process at the last moment, and the reasons for the decision have not been officially disclosed.
Noor Hussain, formerly known as Sarbjit Kaur, is a 48-year-old Indian national who arrived in Pakistan on November 4, 2025, along with a group of Indian Sikh pilgrims to attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak.
During her stay in Pakistan, she embraced Islam on November 5, 2025, and married a local resident, Nasir Hussain. Following her conversion and marriage, her name was changed to Noor Hussain.
Her disappearance came to light on November 13, when the group of Indian pilgrims returned to India without her.

Former chairman of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sardar Mahinderpal Singh, filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking the deportation of the Indian woman.
In his petition, he maintained that Sarbjit Kaur was residing in Pakistan illegally, as her visa had expired in November 2025. He argued that she should be deported under the Foreigners Act, 1946, and relevant standing orders of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
According to the petitioner, the Lahore High Court has sought reports on the matter from the Cabinet Division, the Inspector General of Police, the Chief Secretary, and other relevant authorities.
Advocate Ali Changezi Sindhu, who is pursuing the deportation petition, stated that Sarbjit Kaur had been handed over to the FIA by police and officials of the Evacuee Trust Property Board for her return to India.
He said the petitioner was also seeking the formation of an inquiry team to determine how a woman allegedly having a criminal record in India was granted a Pakistani visa.
The lawyer further said that Sarbjit Kaur and her husband, Nasir Hussain, were arrested from the Nankana Sahib area. Police and intelligence agencies conducted a raid in the village of Pehray Wali and took both into custody.
Meanwhile, no official explanation has yet been provided regarding the suspension of the deportation process.
Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs and head of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, has said that there is no objection to Sarabjit Kaur’s decision to change her religion or to marry a Pakistani national, terming it a personal matter.
The 48-year-old woman, who traveled to Pakistan under the name Sarbjit Kaur, arrived on November 4 as part of an Indian pilgrim group attending the birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak.
On November 5, she converted to Islam, married a Pakistani national named Nasir Hussain, and took the name Noor Hussain.
Her absence became apparent on November 13 when the pilgrim group returned to India without her. Officials later confirmed her visa had expired on November 14, 2025, leading to the start of deportation proceedings in accordance with immigration regulations.
