ISLAMABAD:

In an effort to counter the impact of winter inactivity, a physiotherapist on Monday encouraged children, adults, and older people to adopt regular exercise and playful physical activities to strengthen muscles, protect bones, and maintain good health throughout the colder months.

Speaking to a media outlet, Dr Arif Siddiqui, a renowned physiotherapist, stressed the growing need for public awareness regarding the importance of staying physically active during winter. He noted that reduced movement in colder weather can lead to a range of bone-related issues across all age groups.

Dr Siddiqui explained that children, working adults, and the elderly are equally vulnerable to the negative effects of inactivity. "Winter often keeps people indoors, but staying active is essential for maintaining muscle flexibility and bone strength," he said. The physiotherapist also urged communities to promote engaging activities that encourage regular movement. According to Dr Siddiqui, even light exercise, stretching, and short outdoor walks can significantly improve overall health.

He further highlighted that children are particularly affected by reduced physical activity at this time of year. Increased time spent indoors, excessive screen use, and limited outdoor play, he warned, can result in weaker bones and slower physical development.
