KARACHI:

Police have launched an investigation after four bodies were recovered from a manhole on Mai Kolachi Road in Karachi. The victims include two women, one man, and a boy, authorities said.

The bodies were found near the Mai Kolachi Road Railway Crossing. Police and rescue teams initially responded to a report of a single body, but after removing stones that had been thrown into the manhole to conceal evidence, they discovered a total of four bodies inside. Edhi Foundation teams retrieved the bodies, and transported them to a hospital, where identification of the victims is underway.

Reacting to the incident, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah called for immediate action. He directed police and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the case and ensure that all aspects of the incident are examined to hold the responsible people accountable.

The chief minister also ordered that a report on the investigation be submitted without delay and assured that the Sindh government would provide justice to the affected families. He emphasised that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the government's foremost responsibility.

SHO Docks, Nand Lal, said only after examination and post-mortem by the MLO would the cause of death and the approximate time since death be established. He added that investigators have yet to determine whether the victims were killed elsewhere and dumped in the manhole or murdered at the scene before being disposed of.

SP Keamari, Zain Raza Baloch, said the bodies appear to be more than 10 days old, but cautioned that any conclusions would be premature until forensic analysis is complete. He noted that sewage water inside the manhole has affected the condition of the bodies, complicating assessment. The crime scene has been sealed and evidence collection is ongoing, with progress expected once the victims are identified.
