KARACHI:

A shooting incident in Korangi No 6 market resulted in the death of a first-year student riding in a rickshaw. The victim, 17-year-old Kamil Liaquat, was travelling with her mother and younger brother from her grandmother's house in Landhi Chiragh Hotel to their home in Lines Area. Kamil was the only daughter of her parents and the only sister to two brothers.

According to SSP Korangi, two robbers had just stolen Rs300,000 from a citizen who had left a bank in the jurisdiction of Awami Colony Police. While attempting to flee, the robbers encountered police in Korangi no 6 market. During the exchange of gunfire, one robber was injured and arrested, while the other escaped with the stolen money. It remains unclear whether the student was struck by a police bullet or one from the robbers.

To ensure a fair investigation, a committee headed by SDPO Landhi has been formed to thoroughly investigate the incident and submit a report.

Kamil was taken to Jinnah Hospital, where she was declared dead. Her father, Liaquat, spoke to the media, saying that his daughter was travelling with her mother and younger brother when the shooting took place. He added that his son claimed a bullet hit the rickshaw's window during the police encounter, injuring the rickshaw driver in the arm.
