All electric bus routes go live in Islamabad

Authorities say over 102,000 passengers used service in a day

ISLAMABAD:

On the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, all 21 routes of the electric bus service have been made fully functional under a project aimed at providing citizens with quality and affordable travel facilities. The electric bus service has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public, with daily ridership steadily increasing.

It was reported that on a single day, 102,000 citizens availed themselves of the electric bus service. This was stated during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa to review progress on ongoing and proposed development projects in Islamabad.

The meeting was attended by Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Nifasat Raza, Member Planning Dr Khalid Hafeez, the Director General Procurement and Contract, other senior officers, and project directors of the relevant schemes. A detailed review of progress on various development projects across the city was conducted.

The meeting was informed that construction of the electric bus depot, comprising two sites, is nearly complete, with approximately 97 per cent of the work finished. It was further stated that construction work at Site A of the bus depot has been fully completed.

Progress on the project to link Margalla Avenue with the M-1 Motorway was also reviewed. Similarly, detailed discussions were held on the construction of the Convention, Expo and Exhibition Centre, as well as the proposed luxury hotel project in Islamabad.
