Bad Bunny faced criticism this week after a photo circulated online showing the Puerto Rican rapper touching a historical artifact at Mexico City’s National Institute of Anthropology and History. The image, which appeared on the singer’s Instagram Stories, has since been deleted, but not before social media users voiced their disapproval.

According to the museum, staff were present throughout Bad Bunny’s visit. When they witnessed him touching the artifact, they reminded him that handling items is prohibited. The rapper reportedly complied immediately, removing his hand from the object after being informed of the rules.

The National Institute of Anthropology and History released a statement on social media, emphasising that physical contact with archaeological items is strictly forbidden. “As is public knowledge, physical contact with archaeological goods is prohibited,” the statement read, highlighting that the rule applies to all visitors regardless of status.

Despite the quick compliance, the incident sparked a wave of online backlash, with fans and museum-goers pointing out the importance of preserving historical artifacts for future generations. Critics argued that sharing photos of himself interacting with fragile cultural items, even briefly, was careless, while supporters defended the singer, noting he did not intend harm and acted promptly when informed.

This controversy comes ahead of a major year for Bad Bunny. He is set to headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8, 2026. He also continues his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour, performing internationally from January through July.

In addition, Bad Bunny received six nominations at the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Best Música Urbana Album, and Record of the Year for ‘DtMF’. While the museum incident briefly overshadowed these achievements, the rapper’s supporters continue to highlight his cultural impact and global reach.
