Kate Beckinsale has opened up about her struggles with grief and weight loss in an Instagram post that has since been deleted. The Underworld star explained that losing her mother, Judy Loe, and stepfather, actor Roy Battersby, had a profound effect on her health and appetite. Beckinsale described her body as “closing down” due to shock and trauma, emphasising that her difficulties are not related to anorexia or dieting.

In her post, she noted, “It doesn’t make you feel very hungry, and I don’t know if there’s some sort of survivor’s guilt because it started after my stepdad died.” Beckinsale’s candid explanation came after receiving critical comments from followers about her appearance, prompting her to share the emotional toll of losing loved ones and how it affected her eating habits.

Beckinsale reflected on witnessing her family members suffer at the end of their lives, stating it contributed to her loss of appetite. Despite the backlash, she highlighted that she would never speak cruelly about other people’s bodies. “It just wouldn’t cross my mind and I am so grateful to have been brought up by people who raised me like that,” she said, while expressing how much she misses her late mother, describing Judy Loe as “the compass of my life, the love of my life, my dearest friend.”

Judy Loe passed away in July at the age of 78 after battling cancer, leaving Beckinsale to navigate profound grief. The actress previously shared that her mother’s vast heart and bravery touched many, and that life without her feels “nearly impossible to bear.” Beckinsale’s post joins a broader conversation about celebrity weight and public scrutiny, echoing similar experiences shared by Kelly Osbourne following the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne.
