'Ocean's 14' brings back original crew for ageing heist

George Clooney is reuniting the famous heist crew from the hit franchise as plans move ahead for a new sequel titled 'Ocean's 14', with several of the original stars returning to the screen together.
The actor confirmed that Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Julia Roberts are all set to reprise their roles in the film, which will follow the ageing team as they attempt another ambitious robbery later in life.
Clooney said the idea rests on the characters being older but still sharp enough to pull off a complicated plan, even if they can no longer operate with the same energy they once had on screen.
"There was something about the idea that we're too old to do what we used to do, but we're still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me," Clooney explained in a recent interview.
The upcoming film will be directed by David Leitch rather than Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the original trilogy beginning with 'Ocean's Eleven' in 2001, which went on to become a global box-office success.
Clooney is also attached to the screenplay, and the project is currently in early development, with location scouting already under way and production expected to begin in October 2026, according to the actor.
He revealed that the 1979 film 'Going in Style', about a group of elderly men who decide to carry out a robbery, served as a key creative influence for the tone and storyline of the new sequel.
The original modern-day franchise featured Clooney as Danny Ocean alongside Pitt, Damon, Cheadle and Roberts, with the ensemble later joined by stars including Casey Affleck, Elliott Gould, Bernie Mac and Carl Reiner across three films released between 2001 and 2007.
Warner Bros revived the series in 2018 with the female-led spinoff 'Ocean's 8', starring Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, alongside Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina.
A planned prequel centred on younger versions of Danny and Debbie Ocean is also said to be in development, with Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie linked to the project, though the studio has not yet confirmed further details publicly.
Clooney said the team recently secured budget approval for 'Ocean's 14' and are now moving towards final scheduling, noting that securing the diaries of multiple major stars remains one of the biggest production challenges.
He admitted that he is now more selective about major studio roles but said the appeal of revisiting the much-loved heist series, with an older and slightly slower crew, was too strong to resist at this stage of his career.
While plot specifics remain under wraps, the returning cast and the theme of ageing thieves adapting their methods appear set to give the franchise a reflective twist alongside the glossy glamour that made the originals global hits.
Fans will now be watching for further casting announcements and production updates as Clooney and the veteran crew prepare to take one more swing at cinematic high-stakes larceny, two decades after their first heist together.
