HYDERABAD:

The city on the Indus bank witnessed its first winter rain and the last shower of 2025 on Wednesday, leading to a sharp increase in cold weather intensity.

The brief spell of rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning during Fajr prayers, disrupted drainage and power supply systems across Hyderabad and its adjoining areas. The downpour lasted for about half an hour, leaving roads, streets and intersections waterlogged. Electricity supply was suspended citywide as soon as the first drops fell, and many neighborhoods remained without power until noon. Traffic flow was badly affected, with commuters struggling through flooded thoroughfares.

Following the rain, icy winds swept through the city at night, forcing residents indoors as temperatures dropped significantly. According to the Meteorological Department, 13 millimeters of rain was recorded in Hyderabad's city areas and 6 millimeters on Airport Road, Latifabad. The minimum temperature on Wednesday fell to 14°C, with humidity reaching 69 percent in the evening. Officials forecast cold and dry weather to persist for the next few days.
