Rawalpindi police tighten security for New Year celebrations

Rawalpindi Police have implemented a comprehensive security plan to ensure public safety on the occasion of the New Year, with strict measures in place to prevent aerial firing, fireworks, and one-wheeling.
More than 5,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed to perform security duties, while over 850 traffic wardens remain on duty to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. In addition, more than 70 special checkpoints have been established across the city to curb one-wheeling.
According to details, under the supervision of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani, stringent security arrangements have been finalised to maintain law and order on New Year’s Eve.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Malik Tariq Mehboob stated that an effective security plan has been formulated to protect citizens and prevent aerial firing, fireworks, and one-wheeling during the New Year celebrations.
He further stated that over 5,000 Rawalpindi Police officers are performing security duties, while more than 850 personnel have been assigned traffic management responsibilities. To curb one-wheeling, over 70 special checkpoints have been set up citywide, and additional pickets have been deployed at all police stations to prevent aerial firing and fireworks.
Aerial firing, fireworks, and one-wheeling have been strictly prohibited, and legal action is being taken against violators. It was also indicated that cases under anti-terrorism laws may be registered against individuals involved in aerial firing. The Dolphin Force, Mohafiz Squad, and police station patrol units will continue round-the-clock duties.
Furthermore, effective security arrangements have been made for worship services of the Christian community on the occasion of the New Year. The protection of citizens’ lives and property, as well as the enforcement of law and order, are being ensured at all costs.
