Robert Downey Jr. is once again commanding attention on a Marvel set, this time for his extravagant behind-the-scenes setup during production of Avengers: Doomsday. According to Variety, the actor has established a sprawling base camp area made up of multiple trailers and staffed by private chefs, a setup that has become known among cast and crew as “Downey Land.”

The nickname was shared publicly by Shang-Chi star Simu Liu, who recalled his first visit to the area while speaking about the production. “Downey famously has this convoy of trailers and this whole area in base camp that we affectionately called Downey Land,” Liu said. He added that the space was filled with artwork and personal touches tied to Downey Jr.’s long Marvel legacy.

Liu also described being surprised by the food situation during his visit. “I didn’t realize that Downey Land has its own chefs,” he said, explaining that while he had brought his own lunch, Downey Jr.’s team had already prepared a full spread. “The chefs had come and laid out this full buffet,” Liu added, joking that he couldn’t believe he was suddenly sharing a meal in such a high-profile setting.

The story offers one of the few public glimpses into the atmosphere on the tightly guarded Avengers: Doomsday set. Marvel Studios has reportedly kept footage and plot details under strict control, with trailers shown only in private settings as the studio works to avoid leaks ahead of the film’s release.

Avengers: Doomsday marks Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the conclusion of Tony Stark’s arc in Avengers: Endgame. While Marvel has not publicly detailed his role, the secrecy surrounding the project has only heightened fan speculation and industry buzz.
