Eighth International ICT Conference kicks off at Mehran University

Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro hosted the three-day Eighth International Multi-Disciplinary Information and Communication Technology Conference (IMTIC-25) at the Water Centre Auditorium.
In his opening address, MUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Taha Hussain Ali highlighted that the university’s Department of Civil Engineering held its first international conference in 2008, marking the beginning of a proud tradition. He acknowledged the legendary efforts of Prof Dr Bhawani Shankar, whose work helped MUET establish a global reputation. Dr Ali emphasised that collaboration across disciplines yields better results and noted that modern research requires a multi-disciplinary approach, integrating Information Technology with all fields, from civil and mechanical engineering to telecommunications. He added that sustainable development should guide all research initiatives.
Former MUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Qadeer Khan Rajput, a special guest at the event, stated that knowledge alone is not power; it becomes powerful when shared. He also noted the growing role of artificial intelligence across all sectors, reflecting on its early development in the 1960s and 1970s.
Prof Dr Syed Ali Hassan from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad highlighted the rapid evolution of telecommunication networks, noting that Pakistan is set to adopt 5G by 2026, and future advancements will move toward 6G within the next six to eight years.
Conference founder and chair, Prof Dr Bhawani Shankar Choudhary, shared that IMTIC has been running for 17 years at MUET, with proceedings published in the German research journal Springer.
