Temperature may fall to 11°C as PMD forecasts light rain in Karachi on Dec 30

Rainfall, snowfall also predicted in several other parts of the country in the coming days

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast light drizzle and rain in Karachi during the night of December 30, with cloudy conditions likely to persist through the day and temperatures expected to drop further, while rainfall and snowfall are also anticipated in several other parts of the country in the coming days.

According to the Met Office’s Early Warning Centre, the city is likely to remain overcast, with chances of drizzle and light rainfall at night. The department said the expected rainfall may bring the minimum temperature down to around 11 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is likely to drop further and hover around 25 degrees Celsius.

The PMD said Karachi is expected to experience dry weather for three days following the rainfall, accompanied by cold nights. In its outlook for the next few days, the department also forecast light rain on December 30 in several rural areas of Sindh, including Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Hyderabad, Badin and Thatta.

Meanwhile, the PMD has predicted rainfall and snowfall in various regions across the country from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026. From the night of December 29 to December 31, rain and snowfall are expected in districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob, Sibi, Khuzdar, Panjgur, Awaran, Harnai, Gwadar, Pasni, Nushki, Kachhi, Chagai, Mastung, Bolan, Pishin, Kohlu and Qila Saifullah.

Bahawalpur is likely to receive rain and thunderstorms on December 30 and January 1. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Hangu, Lower Dir, Shangla, Chitral, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Mansehra and the Hazara region are expected to receive heavy rainfall between December 30 and January 1.

Rainfall and snowfall are also anticipated in various areas of Gilgit-Baltistan from December 30 to January 2. In Punjab, cities including Lahore, Sialkot, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi and Islamabad, along with adjoining areas, are forecast to receive rain and thunderstorms from December 30 to January 2.

The PMD has warned that significant water accumulation is expected in several areas, raising the risk of flash flooding. Residents of low-lying areas have been advised to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines.

Hilly and mountainous regions may face an increased risk of landslides, posing threats to local communities and travellers, while traffic disruptions on mountainous roads are also likely due to slippery conditions and debris.

The department said the prevailing weather system is expected to benefit agriculture and horticulture by providing much-needed moisture for crops and plantations, while a noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures is also anticipated across affected areas. The PMD urged residents and authorities to take necessary precautions to minimise potential risks during this period.
