Perry Bamonte, the acclaimed guitarist and keyboardist of the Cure, has died at the age of 65, his passing confirmed over the Christmas period. The news was shared on the Cure’s official website, highlighting Bamonte’s vital role in the band over several decades.

Born in London in 1960, Bamonte first became part of the Cure’s world as a member of its road crew in the mid-1980s, through his brother Daryl, who served as the band’s tour manager. Over the years, Bamonte worked closely with lead singer Robert Smith as a personal assistant and guitar technician, eventually joining the Cure’s lineup in 1990 following the departure of keyboardist Roger O’Donnell.

Bamonte played guitar, six-string bass, and keyboards across several of the Cure’s albums, including the critically praised ‘Wish,’ ‘Wild Mood Swings,’ and ‘Bloodflowers.’ He contributed to many of the band’s hits, such as ‘Friday, I’m in Love’ and ‘A Letter to Elise,’ and performed more than 400 live shows between 1990 and 2005. He briefly left the band before rejoining in 2022, performing another 90 shows, including the highly acclaimed ‘Show of a Lost World’ tour in London in 2024.

In a statement, the Cure remembered Bamonte as ‘quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative,’ praising his dedication and influence on the band’s sound. The band’s announcement reflected both personal and professional admiration, describing him as a warm-hearted and vital member who will be deeply missed.
