Thousands deployed across Punjab for Quaid Day, Christmas
Punjab remained on high alert on Wednesday as security agencies rolled out comprehensive arrangements across the province to ensure peaceful observance of Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas celebrations, deploying tens of thousands of personnel to safeguard worshippers and the general public. According to Punjab Police, more than 30,000 officers and personnel were deployed at 3,583 churches, sensitive locations, parks and recreational spots throughout the province.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar extended greetings to the nation on Quaid-e-Azam Day and to the Christian community on Christmas, reaffirming the police's commitment to stand "shoulder to shoulder" with minorities during their religious festivities.
The IGP said that security planning was finalised in close coordination with church administrations, with special emphasis on facilitating worshippers while maintaining strict vigilance.
He noted that in Lahore alone, over 6,000 police officers were deployed to provide security to more than 600 churches and Christian worship centres.
To further strengthen security, specialised units including the Dolphin Squad, Punjab Response Unit (PRU) and Elite Force conducted intensified patrolling around churches, parks and other public places.
Police officials said that 2,832 CCTV cameras were installed at sensitive churches to monitor activities, while 4,546 walkthrough and handheld metal detectors were used at entry points to ensure thorough screening of attendees.
