'Snatcher' on cops' hook after shootout

Police recover stolen earrings, cash, motorcycle and weapon

RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi police arrested a suspect involved in snatching earrings and a purse from an elderly woman after he opened fire on police during resistance and was injured by his own bullet. Stolen items were recovered and returned to the victim at her home.

According to sources, the incident occurred a few days ago in the Gujar Khan area, where the accused snatched earrings and a purse from an elderly woman and fled. Following her complaint, a case was registered.

CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident and directed SP Saddar Anum Sher to ensure the immediate arrest of the suspect.

A police team led by ASP Daniyal Kazmi and SHO Tayyab Zaheer Baig was conducting raids when, during a checkpoint, the suspect on a motorcycle opened fire at the police. A bullet fired from his own pistol struck his hand, injuring him.

Police arrested the suspect and shifted him to the hospital.

Police recovered the stolen gold earrings, Rs20,000 in cash, the stolen motorcycle, and the weapon used in the crime. On the instructions of the CPO, the recovered items were handed back to the elderly woman at her home. She prayed for the police team, while residents praised Rawalpindi Police and chanted slogans in their support.

CPO Khalid Hamdani said women are mothers, sisters, and daughters, and those who dare to attack their life, property, and honour will always be dealt with strictly.
