Father-son duo, accused of murder, shot dead

Suspects escape after opening fire on main Murree Road

Armed suspects on a motorcycle killed a father and son over a dispute in a double murder incident on Murree Road in the City police station area of Rawalpindi.

The suspects opened fire and fled. The police have shifted the bodies to the hospital for postmortem. The two deceased had been accused in a case registered at Pirwadhai police station for killing a man named Shah Mir and injuring six people, including a woman, over a dispute.

According to the police, father and son Akbar Khan and Rizwan Khan, both from Safdarabad Pirwadhai were riding on a motorcycle near Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex on Murree Road, when suddenly unknown armed suspects on another motorcycle came and opened fire on them, killing both the father and son and escaping. The intense firing caused a commotion on Murree Road.

As soon as the information was received, the police officials reached the spot to collect evidence and shifted the bodies to the hospital. According to the police officials, the deceased father and son were booked for murder in Pirwadhai police station in December last year. They were accused in a 2022 murder and attempt case, in which they were accused of shooting and killing Shah Mir and injuring six people, including a woman, after Shah Mir complained about them directing flour from a government scheme to people he favoured.

Meanwhile, CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice of the double murder and directed SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mahboob to immediately reach the spot, upon which the SSP Operations reached the spot along with a police contingent and collected evidence under his supervision.

SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mahboob said that according to initial information, unknown persons had shot and killed the victims. The incident is a result of previous enmity. However, investigations are underway from all angles into the incident. The accused involved will be arrested and brought to justice.
