Devon Werkheiser speaks out after former Nickelodeon co-star Tylor Chase is seen homeless in LA

Devon Werkheiser has spoken publicly after former Nickelodeon co-star Tylor Chase was found living homeless on the streets of Los Angeles, saying he is heartbroken by the situation facing the former child actor.

Chase, who played Martin Qwerly on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide in the 2000s, was recently filmed sleeping rough after being recognised by members of the public. The video circulated widely on social media, prompting concern from fans and former colleagues.

Werkheiser, who starred alongside Chase as Ned Bigby, addressed the situation in an interview with TMZ after seeing the footage.

He said, “Tylor was a sensitive, sweet, and kind kid. It is heartbreaking to see him this way.” He added that he had not seen Chase in nearly 20 years, saying, “Anyone who has dealt with severe addiction and deep mental health issues knows it’s an unbelievably challenging situation if they don’t want help.”

Reflecting on recovery, Werkheiser said, “It’s an everyday uphill battle to course correct. It requires a ton of support and patience and time.” While urging the public not to film Chase during vulnerable moments, he acknowledged that the attention could lead to positive intervention. “My only hope is that from this exposure, someone with real understanding and resources can step in, get Tylor into treatment, and help him get back on track. We all want a happy ending.”

Authorities in Riverside, California, confirmed that Chase has been living unhoused but is not wanted for any crimes.

Riverside Police Department public information officer Ryan Railsback said officers regularly engage with Chase and offer resources, including temporary shelter and treatment options, which he has consistently declined.

Chase appeared unfazed when informed of the viral video, police said. His former castmates, including Daniel Curtis Lee and Lindsey Shaw, have also spoken about their shock, describing the footage as “scary” and difficult to process.
