Broken promises haunt capital's G-14/1

ISLAMABAD:

More than two decades after its launch, Islamabad's Sector G-14 remains mired in controversy, with Sub-Sector G-14/1 having become a stark emblem of administrative paralysis, illegal encroachments, and the prolonged injustice endured by genuine allottees.

Sector G-14 was launched in 2004 by the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA), in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA), with the stated aim of providing affordable and well-planned housing for federal government employees.

Comprising four sub-sectors—G-14/1, G-14/2, G-14/3, and G-14/4—the scheme offered a total of 5,486 residential plots in various sizes, ranging from 25×40 feet to 50×90 feet. While the project promised the creation of a modern residential community, the lived reality for many allottees has been one of persistent frustration and uncertainty.

Among all the sub-sectors, G-14/1 has proven the most problematic. Despite the passage of more than fifteen years, the vast majority of legitimate allottees have yet to be granted possession of their plots.

Illegal encroachments, disputed built-up properties, and unresolved ownership claims have brought development to an almost complete standstill. Official sources indicate that barely one per cent of the area in G-14/1 has been cleared, with the remainder still under occupation or embroiled in legal disputes.
