Brad Pitt wins discovery ruling as judge orders Angelina Jolie to release messages in winery case

Judge ordered Angelina Jolie to turn over unredacted messages in the ongoing Château Miraval legal dispute

Brad Pitt has secured a procedural ruling in his ongoing legal dispute with Angelina Jolie over the French winery they once co-owned, Château Miraval. Court documents show that a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ordered Jolie to produce previously withheld or redacted communications linked to the case.

The ruling, issued on Wednesday, December 17, grants Pitt’s motion to compel discovery. The judge ordered Jolie to provide unredacted versions of certain non-attorney communications that had been listed on a privilege log. According to the order, the materials must be produced within 45 days.

“The Court orders Jolie to produce in full, within 45 days of this Order, unredacted versions of the communications exchanged between non-attorneys in the 22 documents identified on Jolie’s February 14, 2025 privilege log,” the court document states.

A source quoted by PEOPLE claimed the emails would demonstrate that Jolie “has been disingenuous since the start regarding her true intentions about selling her share of the business to Stoli.” The claim reflects the source’s view and has not been independently adjudicated.

Pitt filed his lawsuit in 2022, alleging that Jolie sold her stake in Château Miraval to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of the Stoli Group, without his consent, despite an alleged agreement requiring mutual approval. Jolie has denied that such an agreement existed and filed a countersuit accusing Pitt of conducting what her legal team described as a “vindictive war” against her.

Jolie’s lawyers have also argued that Pitt refused to buy out her share unless she signed a non-disclosure agreement, which they said was intended to silence her regarding alleged misconduct.

Pitt was not charged following investigations into a 2016 private jet incident, and Jolie declined to press charges at the time.

More recently, court filings show Pitt is seeking $35 million in damages related to the sale. The former couple finalised their divorce in December 2024 and share six children.
