Chris Evans is officially returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and this time, Captain America has entered fatherhood.
Marvel confirmed Evans’ return as Steve Rogers through a newly released teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, which follows the brief leak of unfinished footage online earlier this week. The leaked clip quickly spread across social media before being taken down, prompting Marvel to release the official teaser attached to theatrical screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The preview confirms that Avengers: Doomsday, set to arrive in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026, will feature Steve Rogers in an unexpected new phase of life: as the father of a newborn child.
The teaser opens on a quiet rural setting, with Steve riding a motorcycle home as a soft piano version of the Avengers theme plays. Inside the house, he briefly reflects on his past, examining items reminiscent of his Captain America identity, before gently cradling a baby in his arms. The teaser ends with a title card reading, “Steve Rogers will return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’” followed by a countdown clock marking one year until the film’s release.
Marvel is expected to roll out additional character-focused teasers in the coming weeks as anticipation builds for the next phase of the franchise.
Audiences last saw Steve Rogers in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, where he completed a time-travel mission to return the Infinity Stones before choosing a quiet life with Peggy Carter. He later passed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, officially handing over the mantle.
The new footage raises major questions about Steve’s return, including whether this version exists within the main MCU timeline, represents an alternate-universe variant, or follows the life he built after traveling back in time. The identity and significance of the child also remain unclear.
While Evans previously made a surprise MCU-related appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine as the Human Torch, Doomsday marks his first confirmed return as Captain America since Endgame.
The film features a massive ensemble cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Simu Liu. Robert Downey Jr. will return to Marvel in a new role as the villain Doctor Doom, with several characters from the X-Men universe also set to cross over.
