The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has confirmed that Alan Cumming will host the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards, succeeding David Tennant in the role.

The prestigious event will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, bringing together leading figures from the film industry to honour outstanding achievements across 25 competitive categories voted on by BAFTA members.

Cumming, who has enjoyed renewed international attention as the host and executive producer of the hit series The Traitors US, said he is thrilled to return to the BAFTA stage. He will be taking over from David Tenant who hosted the awards last two years.

He shared his excitement about celebrating cinematic creativity and craftsmanship, while also promising laughter and a touch of mischief throughout the evening.

With a career spanning decades across film, television and theatre, Cumming brings a wealth of experience to the role. He is a recipient of major honours including a Tony Award, an Olivier Award and a Golden Globe, and is widely respected for his performances in productions such as Cabaret and The Good Wife.

Beyond acting, he also serves as artistic director of the Pitlochry Festival Theatre in Scotland.

BAFTA’s leadership praised Cumming’s warmth, intelligence and vibrant energy, noting that his unique hosting style is set to make the 2026 ceremony both entertaining and unforgettable.

His ability to balance humour with heartfelt appreciation for the art of filmmaking is expected to resonate with both nominees and audiences worldwide.

The road to the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards is already underway, with longlist voting opening in December, longlists announced in early January, and official nominations revealed later in the month.

The EE Rising Star Award, the only category voted for by the public, will also return as a key highlight of the ceremony.
