Jennifer Lawrence hallucinates on ‘Hunger Games’ set after taking Ambien by mistake
Jennifer Lawrence revealed she hallucinated on the set of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire after accidentally taking an Ambien, the actress told Leonardo DiCaprio during a conversation for Variety and CNN’s Actors on Actors.
The incident occurred while filming a dance scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Lawrence explained that the mix-up led to hallucinations that frustrated co-star Elizabeth Banks. She said, “I also once took an Ambien in the morning, thinking it was something else. I was hallucinating. Elizabeth Banks got really annoyed with me.”
The actress shared additional experiences with sleep-related medication during her career, recalling that she once took Adderall instead of a sleeping pill while filming Red Sparrow, leaving her awake all night and struggling to perform in scenes that required complex lines, including delivering phrases in a Russian accent.
Lawrence, who originated the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise, played the character across four films released between 2012 and 2015. The series has since expanded with prequels, including 2023’s The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and the upcoming Sunrise on the Reaping, in which Lawrence is expected to reprise her role alongside co-star Josh Hutcherson as Peeta.
Variety previously reported that the nature of Lawrence and Hutcherson’s cameo in the prequel is being kept under wraps, though book readers anticipate their appearance in a flash-forward scene alongside Haymitch. Lawrence has consistently stated she is open to reprising Katniss if the opportunity arises.
