Kit Harington has shared his enthusiasm for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series, saying he would gladly take on any role, no matter how small, if given the opportunity to join the rebooted Wizarding World.

In an interview with Variety, the actor said his interest is rooted in lifelong fandom rather than career ambition. “I’d take on any of them. I’ll be a background extra, I don’t care. I would love to be in that,” Harington said, emphasizing that simply being part of the project would be meaningful to him.

Although Harington has not been cast in the HBO series, he is already involved with the franchise through Audible’s newly launched Harry Potter audiobook collection.

The project began last month with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and Harington appears in The Chamber of Secrets as the voice of Gilderoy Lockhart, marking his first official role within the Wizarding World.

Harington has frequently described himself as a devoted fan of J.K. Rowling’s novels, explaining that the books were a major part of his childhood. He said he first read the series at the same age as Harry Potter and later revisited the stories as an adult through Stephen Fry’s audiobook narrations.

“I know them like the back of my hand,” Harington said, calling himself a “complete nerd” for the books.

The role of Lockhart, originally portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film adaptation, was an easy decision for the actor. Harington described the character as both humorous and tragic, noting that Lockhart’s insecurity, self-importance and performative confidence make him particularly compelling. He added that the character’s flaws feel familiar to anyone working in creative industries.

The Audible audiobook series features a star-studded lineup of voice talent. Keira Knightley voices Dolores Umbridge, James McAvoy appears as Mad-Eye Moody, Matthew Macfadyen lends his voice to Lord Voldemort, and Riz Ahmed takes on the role of Professor Snape. Several of Harington’s former Game of Thrones co-stars are also involved, including Mark Addy as Hagrid, Gemma Whelan as Professor Sprout and Iwan Rheon as Professor Lupin.

HBO’s Harry Potter series is expected to be a long-form adaptation of all seven books, with each season reportedly dedicated to a single novel. The project is being positioned as a more detailed and faithful retelling than the original film franchise, though casting announcements and a release date have not yet been revealed.

For now, Harington remains focused on his audiobook work, but has made it clear that if the Wizarding World comes calling again, he would be more than ready to return.
