Hollow Knight Silksong has reached over seven million copies sold just three months after its release, according to a recent blog post from developer Team Cherry.
The milestone does not include players accessing the game through Xbox Game Pass, which is expected to add millions more to the total.
The original Hollow Knight, released in 2017, grew steadily into one of the most acclaimed indie games of the decade thanks to its interconnected world, challenging combat, and distinctive art style.
Initially conceived as a downloadable content expansion, Silksong developed into a full game featuring a new protagonist, Hornet, alongside new locations, enemies, and gameplay mechanics.
Team Cherry addressed the milestone in their blog, saying, “We wanted to say a huge thank you to all the players who’ve braved Silksong’s distant and dangerous lands. That’s over seven million of you who’ve purchased the game, alongside millions more playing on Xbox Game Pass!” The studio added that the scale of the launch exceeded expectations, noting it was “enough to crash all of the storefronts.”
The rapid success of Silksong is notable when compared with the first game, which has sold around 15 million copies over eight years. Fans on platforms such as Steam have contributed overwhelmingly positive reviews, reflecting the reception of the game since launch.
Team Cherry also revealed plans for a free downloadable content update, signalling continued support for Silksong while hinting at future projects beyond the Hollow Knight universe.
Players continue to engage with Silksong through multiple platforms, including Steam and Xbox Game Pass, ensuring the title maintains strong visibility and momentum in its early months.
The achievement highlights both the enduring popularity of the Hollow Knight franchise and the growing influence of indie games in the broader gaming market.
