Prime Video has confirmed that Fallout will return for a third season, renewing the hit series months before the debut of its second season.

The announcement was made in May 2025, underscoring the platform’s confidence in the adaptation ahead of season 2’s premiere on Tuesday, December 16, at 9 p.m. ET.

Based on the long-running video game franchise, Fallout explores a post-apocalyptic world divided between the privileged residents of underground vaults and those struggling to survive above ground. Set 200 years after nuclear devastation, the series blends dark humor, violence, and social commentary as characters navigate a fractured wasteland.

Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the first season’s finale and expands the story into new territory. The upcoming episodes take viewers across the Mojave wasteland and into the iconic post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas, a setting familiar to fans of the games. The series stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, and Frances Turner.

While season 2 is just arriving, executive producer Todd Howard has already begun teasing what lies ahead. In a recent interview, Howard said season 3 is scheduled to begin filming in summer 2026 and suggested the show’s format allows for greater flexibility than the games. He noted the series can move across locations and timelines, opening the door to exploring multiple eras and regions from the Fallout universe.

With a third season already secured, Fallout is positioned as a long-term franchise for Prime Video, signaling continued expansion of its post-apocalyptic world beyond the events of season 2.
