Jimmy Kimmel used his Jimmy Kimmel Live! monologue to condemn Donald Trump over a social media post in which the president commented on the death of director Rob Reiner and his wife.

Kimmel said Trump’s remarks crossed a line, slamming him of exploiting a tragic situation for political point-scoring.

In the post, Trump wrote that “a very sad thing happened” before going on to claim Reiner suffered from what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” He alleged that Reiner and his wife died “reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” Trump also claimed Reiner “was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump.”

Responding to the comments, Kimmel said Trump’s version of events was “not at all what happened” and described the post as “so hateful and vile.”

He added that Trump had once again managed to go lower than expected, saying, “Just when you think he can’t go any lower, he somehow finds a way to do that.”

Kimmel also criticised the lack of empathy shown in the post, saying it was “insulting” to speak that way about someone who had just been killed and who left children behind. “Even for him, that seemed like too much,” the late-night host said.

Defending Reiner’s legacy, Kimmel added, “I know from my personal interactions with Rob Reiner that he would want us to keep pointing out the loathsome atrocities that continue to ooze out of this sick and irresponsible man’s mouth.”
