Jane Fonda has shared an emotional reflection on the final moments she spent with Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, saying the couple appeared happy and healthy the night before they were found dead in their Los Angeles home.
The Oscar-winning actress revealed on social media that she saw the longtime couple on December 13, writing that she is “reeling with grief” after learning of their deaths the following day. According to Fonda, nothing about their demeanor suggested tragedy was imminent.
Fonda also remembered Rob and Michele Reiner for their deep commitment to activism and community work, describing them as generous, intelligent, and endlessly focused on making the world kinder. Her comments echoed tributes from others close to the family, who have spoken about the couple’s warmth and compassion.
The Reiners had attended a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien on the evening of December 13. On December 14, police responded to their Brentwood home and discovered both Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, deceased. Authorities later confirmed the deaths were the result of homicide and that the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 32, had been arrested in connection with the case.
Nick Reiner has since been booked on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail. Investigators say the couple suffered fatal stab wounds, though a motive has not yet been publicly disclosed.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond. Rob Reiner’s daughter Tracy Reiner, whom he shared with late actress Penny Marshall, also said she had seen her father shortly before his death and remains in disbelief.
As the investigation continues, friends, family, and colleagues are grappling with the sudden loss of two figures remembered not only for their public achievements, but for the care and generosity they showed to those around them.
