Nick Reiner questioned by LAPD following deaths of parents Rob and Michele Reiner

Authorities are investigating the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele at their Los Angeles home

Rob Reiner, one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call for medical assistance at approximately 3:30pm. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a man and a woman deceased inside the residence. Sources later identified the victims as Rob and Michele Reiner, who were reportedly found by their daughter, Romy.

Nick Reiner, the couple’s son, is being questioned by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division following the deaths, PEOPLE has learned. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that no arrests have been made and that no one is currently in custody.

Multiple sources close to the family told PEOPLE that Nick Reiner is alleged to be responsible for the deaths, though police have not confirmed this account. 

Rob Reiner’s career spanned decades and included iconic films such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men. Michele Singer Reiner was a longtime producer and partner in his work.

Nick Reiner has previously spoken publicly about his struggles with addiction, which began during his teenage years and later led to a period of homelessness. 

In a statement obtained by Variety, the Reiner family said, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
