Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer have separated after seven years of marriage, with a source saying the decision followed long-term strain linked to the comedian’s career and family life.

A source quoted by the Daily Mail said the split was “a long time coming” and pointed to shifts in Schumer’s professional focus over the past decade. “When ‘Trainwreck’ came out in 2015, she was on fire with her career, and she was offered lots of roles that she ended up saying no to,” the source said.

According to the same source, Schumer’s priorities changed after the birth of the couple’s son Gene in May 2019. The insider said her career was put “on the back burner” and that she “didn’t go full throttle as she would have liked”.

The source claimed Schumer is now looking to regain the momentum she experienced earlier in her career. “Now, 10 years on from the ‘Trainwreck’ high and success that started giving her the career she expected for herself, she’s looking to get that back and see if lightning strikes twice for a major movie career,” they said.

The impact of those ambitions on the marriage was also addressed. “With those career goals and her being a mother, she didn’t focus much on her marriage to make that succeed,” the source said. They added that Schumer realised “you can’t have everything” and that “the thing that suffered most was her marriage”.

The insider described Schumer, 44, as “equal amounts [of] happy and sad” following the separation. They said she remains committed to co-parenting Gene with Fischer, 45, and is focused on “getting her life and career back in order for a very successful 2026”.

Schumer confirmed the separation on Instagram, writing: “Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son.”

She later addressed speculation surrounding her weight loss and Fischer’s autism diagnosis, saying: “Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism.”
