CCD 'encounter' leaves torture accused dead
A suspect allegedly involved in subjecting citizens to inhuman torture in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi was reportedly killed in an alleged police encounter, sources claimed on Saturday.
Reports indicate that Bilal, the suspect allegedly responsible for brutal acts of torture against citizens in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, who is also a proclaimed offender with a criminal record involving robbery and other offences in the twin cities, was killed during an encounter with the CCD in the Sadiqabad area.
So far, both the Rawalpindi Police and the CCD have remained silent regarding the incident. However, sources stated that during a raid the suspect opened fire on the police in an attempt to escape and was killed in retaliatory firing.
It is noteworthy that videos of two young men allegedly subjected to extreme cruelty at the hands of the suspect went viral on social media a few days ago.
In one video, a young man can be seen with half of his head shaved and his lower body unclothed, being forced to run. In another video, a young man is shown being brutally assaulted and his hands raised in the air tied to a pipe.
According to police sources, the suspect Bilal was the ringleader of a gang involved in robberies and drug trafficking. After the videos went viral, the Rawalpindi Police had formed teams to arrest him, while a CCD team was also pursuing him after witnessing the brutality depicted in the footage.
Sources further said that late last night, near Bank Ground in the jurisdiction of Sadiqabad Police Station, CCD personnel came face to face with the suspect. He resisted arrest, and while attempting to flee, was critically injured in crossfire and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
When contacted in this regard, Rawalpindi Police officials stated that the district police currently have no information regarding suspect Bilal Abbasi. CCD officials are also maintaining complete silence on the alleged encounter or the suspect's death and declined to respond despite being contacted.
However, a police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that a case regarding the encounter is being registered, and it will record that the suspect was killed by bullets fired by his own accomplices.
