ETPB land encroached for 'housing society' in Kahna

LAHORE:

Local influential in the Kahna area has allegedly begun selling hundreds of kanals of Evacuee Trust Property (ETP) land by falsely presenting it as a private housing society.

A signboard bearing the name of the "housing project" has reportedly been installed on the site.

Concerned residents have appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chairman of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) to take immediate notice.

According to locals, this is the same land that political leaders had promised during election campaigns would be reserved for a children's playground and a cemetery. However, residents say that in recent days, an influential group "sealed off" the land and began establishing a compound for a housing colony.

The land in question is national property managed by the ETPB.

Under the law, such land can only be leased for specific purposes — primarily agriculture. ETPB regulations strictly prohibit leaseholders from selling the land, constructing buildings, or using it for any housing scheme.
