Kyojin, a high-concept World War II monster story, has taken the top honor at this year’s Script2Comic Contest, earning its creators new visibility and opening the door for broader adaptation opportunities. The screenplay, written by The Mul Brothers, impressed judges with its blend of historical drama, creature-driven action and cinematic world-building.
Set in 1942, Kyojin follows American and Japanese soldiers who are forced into an uneasy alliance after encountering colossal subterranean giants beneath the Pacific battlefield. The story mixes wartime tension with large-scale monster mythology, delivering a fresh twist on both genres.
Now in its sixth year, the Script2Comic Contest offers emerging writers the chance to see their screenplays transformed into comic books or graphic novels, with winners receiving publication support and increased visibility among publishers, producers and development executives. This year’s competition highlighted a range of inventive genre entries, but Kyojin ultimately stood out for its striking visuals, emotional stakes and adaptation potential.
With its win, Kyojin will move into the comic development phase, with further opportunities for expansion into film or television. The project’s recognition underscores the contest’s ongoing role in discovering and elevating bold new storytelling voices.
