Taylor Swift sparked speculation about a possible book project after discussing her audiobook preferences on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Dec. 10, 2025.

The singer, known for her albums Evermore and Folklore, said she listens to audiobooks “constantly” and favors dark, atmospheric mysteries with twisty family secrets.

During the interview, Swift described the type of storylines she enjoys: old, ivy-covered British mansions, mysterious past murders, secretive relatives, and unreliable narrators. She cited Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, a 1938 Gothic novel that inspired her song “Tolerate It,” as a key influence. “If you present me with a plotline where there’s a family compound on an island off the coast of Maine, there are secrets in this family… plot twist – unreliable narrator, she’s the psycho,” Swift explained.

The singer’s detailed description of these narrative elements has fans drawing parallels to her own music, including tracks from Evermore and No Body, No Crime. Many Swifties are now speculating that the singer could be planning a book, as her storytelling style aligns closely with the dark, intricate plots she described.

Swift’s comments come amid a surge in audiobook popularity. Spotify Wrapped data indicated that half of all Spotify Premium users tried an audiobook this year, and Audio Publishers Association reports show audiobook sales increased 13% to $2.2 million last year.

While Swift has not confirmed any plans to write a book, her detailed interest in mystery novels has sparked excitement online, leaving fans eager to see if the singer will transition from songwriting to authoring her own thriller.
