Adjoa Andoh, the 62-year-old stage and screen star, best known for her role as Lady Agatha Danbury in Netflix’s Bridgerton, received the MBE at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.

Despite her impressive career, Andoh admitted she felt a sense of “imposter syndrome” compared with others recognised for the tangible social contributions they make across the country.

“I feel great imposter syndrome because I like what I do and drama's the world I live in,” Andoh said. She expressed admiration for Prince William, highlighting his work supporting homelessness and young people.

During their conversation, she discussed her involvement with St Mungo’s and efforts to help youngsters get the “best start in life.”

Andoh’s career spans television, film, and stage. She has appeared in Doctor Who, Casualty, and the CBBC spy series MI High. On stage, she has performed in productions such as Richard II at Shakespeare’s Globe, Troilus and Cressida with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Great Expectations at Bristol Old Vic.

Reflecting on the MBE ceremony, Andoh said she felt privileged to be among people whose work benefits the wider community. “I think this event is a great time to celebrate the work that lots of people do for the benefit of others in this country. It's really impressive, so to be in and amongst their number, I feel very humbled and honoured,” she added.

Looking ahead, Andoh spoke about the upcoming fourth season of Bridgerton, set to release in 2026. She teased the storyline will focus on the next Bridgerton sibling, Benedict, and promises fresh elements not seen in previous seasons.

“I can be in Cambodia, Brixton, New York, Spain, or Ghana, and people know the show and they love it. It's a world with lots of challenges, and anything that can put some joy into the world is a good thing,” she said, emphasising the show’s global reach and joyful spirit.
