Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson’s planned Netflix docuseries is now in doubt after a reported altercation between the former One Direction bandmates.
The pair, who have experienced a long-running feud since Malik left the group in 2015, had agreed to reunite for a US road trip filmed for a three-part documentary series. A source told Star that the project may never air because of a serious dispute that occurred during production.
According to the insider, the incident happened at the end of a day’s filming when Malik and Tomlinson, “went to a bar, and they got into a majorly heated argument that ended up turning physical. It was so serious of a bust-up that Louis ended up with a concussion.”
The “Lemonade” singer “is going through back-channels trying to obtain the footage, so it’s believed the Netflix cameras may have still been filming during the incident,” the source claimed, noting that promotional plans “are on hold indefinitely.”
The insider added, “It’s unlikely as things stand that Louis or Zayn will want to be in the same room doing any press or promotion for it, unless there’s been a major U-turn of feelings behind the scenes.”
Malik and Tomlinson’s strained relationship has been public since 2015, when they exchanged remarks on X. The following year, Malik told Capital FM’s Dave Berry that they were “not talking on friend terms.” In 2019, Tomlinson explained that their friendship broke down after Malik did not support him during his emotional 2016 X-Factor tribute to his late mother, saying, “Truthfully, it never really got better.”
The two later reconnected at Liam Payne’s funeral in 2024, and Tomlinson attended Malik’s Los Angeles concert in January 2025, when Malik told fans: “An old friend of mine is here supporting me tonight". The Netflix docuseries had been scheduled for release next summer.
