KARACHI:

The bodies of three women were found inside a residential flat in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, police said, sparking an investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The incident occurred on Sunday in a second-floor apartment of a residential complex known as Haramein Royal Residency, also referred to as Haramein Tower. Following the discovery, the management of the housing project reportedly restricted media access to the premises.

The deceased were identified as Samina Umar (52), Maha Umar (22) and Samreen Umar (19), who were related as a mother, her daughter and daughter-in-law. Initial assessments indicate that two of the bodies appeared to be a few hours old, while one body was believed to be several days old, suggesting a possible time gap between the deaths.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Zubair Nazir Sheikh said a male family member, Yaseen (30), was shifted to hospital in critical condition, while the head of the household (father) was found to be mentally unstable.

The incident was reported to the police by the son of one of the deceased women, SSP Sheikh added. Preliminary findings suggest the women may have died after consuming a poisonous substance, though investigators have so far not found conclusive evidence inside the flat to confirm the cause of death.

“The exact cause of death cannot be determined at this stage and will only be confirmed after the post-mortem reports are received,” SSP Zubair Nazir Sheikh said.

Police also revealed that the family had recently moved to Gulshan-e-Iqbal from Ranchore Line. Further investigations are underway.

A day ago, a man stabbed his wife and young daughter to death during a domestic dispute in Karachi’s Gizri neighbourhood.

The incident occurred near Noorani Mosque in Upper Gizri’s Baloch Para, where the accused, identified as Samiullah, is alleged to have attacked his family with a sharp weapon.

Police have registered a murder case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Clifton police station on the complaint of Faisal Khan, son of Naik Muhammad, the brother of the deceased woman. According to the FIR, the victims were identified as 43-year-old Kulsoom, wife of the accused, and their 11-year-old daughter, Maryam.
