Metroid Prime 4 players have been discussing a feature that links background music in the game’s desert area to the new Samus amiibo, priced at $30.

Attention increased after GameXplain’s Andre Segers shared a clip on 3 December showing Samus riding her Vi-O-La motorbike through a quiet desert landscape, with only the bike’s hum and booster sounds audible.

Following the video, players noted that the silence was intentional rather than a technical issue. According to details shared online, scanning the Samus amiibo on the Switch 2 activates background music while travelling across the dunes.

Without the figure, the desert section currently remains silent. Those who have used the amiibo say it unlocks a radio-style feature that lets players cycle through tracks and choose a theme while riding.

Information from the Japanese amiibo website states that the toy provides additional in-game benefits. These include a shield capable of blocking up to 99 damage and a full health restoration once per day.

A second amiibo, featuring Samus and the Vi-O-La bike, also costs 30 dollars and unlocks full versions of fragmented story movies found throughout the game.

Player responses have varied. Some have described the additions as optional extras, while others have expressed concern about the feature’s implementation.

One comment circulating among players said, “People need to call this out way more. This is literally just microtransactions at the price of DLCs.”

Another remarked, “The bike named after a musical instrument plays no music,” in reference to the Vi-O-La bike’s name.

For now, players who wish to access background music during the desert motorbike sections will need to scan the new Samus amiibo. At the same time, those without it will continue to experience the area in silence.
